This page describes how rankemo.com actually works today. It is kept deliberately short because the site collects very little.

What this site does not do

We do count how often visitors follow a seller link, which is described below. If anything else changes — for example, if a privacy-respecting analytics tool is added later — this page will be updated first.

Counting clicks on seller links

When you follow a link to a seller, the link passes through Rankemo first. We add one line to our database: which offer you followed, for which part, from which seller, and the date and time. That is the whole record. There is no cookie, no account, no identifier for you, and nothing that says two clicks came from the same person — which also means we cannot tell repeated clicks apart, and some of the count is certainly automated traffic rather than people.

We do this to learn which parts people actually need, so we know where to spend our checking time. A click is not a purchase: no seller tells us whether you bought anything, and we earn no commission on any link on this site.

One thing we will not claim: that this involves no personal data at all. Our own table holds none. But the request still travels through our hosting provider, and, as with every page of this site, standard server logs there may briefly record technical data such as the IP address of the request. Those logs belong to the hosting layer described below, are not used by us to identify anyone, and are never joined to the click record.

If the counting fails, the link still works: getting to the seller never depends on our database.

The e-bike you save

If you tell us which e-bike is yours, Rankemo remembers it in your own browser (local storage) so that a part page can say straight away whether it fits that bike. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to our server, and it is not linked to anything else. The “Remove” button next to your bike deletes it, and clearing your browser data does the same.

Stock and price alerts

If you ask to be told when a part comes back in stock or gets cheaper, we store your email address, which part you asked about, the bike generation you were looking at, and the date. That is the whole record. The legal basis is your consent, given by submitting the form, and the only use is sending you that one kind of message. Every alert email carries a one-click unsubscribe link; using it stops the emails immediately. Alerts you have not unsubscribed from are kept until you do, or until the part disappears from the site.

Owner reports

When you tell us whether a part fitted your bike, we store your answer, the part, the bike generation, your optional comment and the date. None of it is published with your name or address attached: only the counts of yes and no answers are shown on the site.

To stop the same person voting many times without asking anyone to create an account, we store a one-way fingerprint computed from your IP address, a secret known only to our server, and the part concerned. The address itself is never written down, the fingerprint cannot be turned back into it, and a different fingerprint is produced for each part, so it cannot be used to follow you around the site.

Emails you send us

For visitors to this site, the personal data Rankemo processes is what you choose to send by email to contact@rankemo.com — typically your name, your email address and the information you include in your message. It is used to reply to you. It is not added to marketing lists, and it is not shared with third parties except the email infrastructure used to send and receive messages.

If you want the correspondence you sent deleted, ask by email at the same address and it will be deleted unless invoicing or legal record-keeping obligations require keeping part of it.

Who processes this data for us

Alerts and owner reports are stored in a Neon Postgres database hosted in the European Union. Alert emails are sent through Brevo SAS, which is based in France and states that its databases are hosted in the European Union. Brevo may use the subprocessors documented in its Data Processing Agreement. Email sent to and from contact@rankemo.com is routed and received through Infomaniak Network SA, which is established in Switzerland and states that it hosts the data of its mail service in Switzerland. None of these providers is allowed to use your data for anything else, and we do not send them anything beyond what is described above.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. (United States). As with any web host, standard technical server logs (such as IP addresses of requests) may be processed by the hosting infrastructure to deliver and secure the service. Rankemo does not use these logs to identify visitors.

Transfers outside the European Union

Alerts and owner reports are stored in the European Union, and alert emails are sent by a provider based in France. Email to and from our own addresses is handled by Infomaniak Network SA in Switzerland. The European Commission recognises Switzerland as providing an adequate level of protection for personal data. Two of the companies behind these services are United States companies, so your data can be accessed from outside the European Union: Vercel Inc., which hosts the site, and Neon, which operates the database service (part of Databricks). Vercel’s data processing addendum includes the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses for those transfers, and Neon relies on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. At the date of this notice, Rankemo uses no other service providers to process the personal data described above, except the documented subprocessors used by those providers or where disclosure is required by law.

Your rights

Rankemo is operated from France. Depending on where you live, you may have rights of access, rectification, deletion and portability over personal data concerning you (under the GDPR in the European Union, and equivalent laws elsewhere). For alerts you can act yourself with the unsubscribe link in any alert email. For anything else — including deleting a report or a comment you sent us — write to contact@rankemo.com.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Because Rankemo is operated from France, that authority is the CNIL: cnil.fr, 3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, France. If you live in another European Union country, you may also complain to the authority where you live.
